The Story Behind the Breed

The Bernese Mountain Dog comes from the canton of Bern in Switzerland, where farmers relied on them to herd cattle, pull carts, and guard farms in the Alps for centuries. The striking tricolor coat wasn't bred for looks. It's just what happens when a working dog has been doing honest work in honest weather for a very long time. Now they mostly work at being the most photogenic dog at the park.
